Shoot the Harassers

One way that people in New York City are reacting to being harassed is by shooting the harassers... with a camera. Then, they send the photos to Holla Back New York City for the whole world to see!

Many of the photos are posted with text by the women who got harassed. It is evident that the act of doing something to get back at the harassers, even it is to merely pull out the cellphone camera and shoot a picture, seems to immediately make the women feel better. They seem to regain their sense of personal power and confidence during or soon after the incident.

There are chances of genuine misunderstanding or real abuse of this facility by some woman, of course. But hey, whatever works!

Wondering if this would work for eve-teasers and their victims in India...

  1. public humiliation is an interesting concept. So yes, i think it would definitely make a difference if indians started doing it too.
    Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, it should be VERY interesting to follow the implementation of such a system...does the eve-teaser become violent and try to snatch the phone away? or does he curb himself after being publicly shamed.
    Also, do any perverts begin to get off on such shots?

  2. It's already being done in India.

    The woman who started the blanknoiseproject site, on which you, Libran Lover, have already posted, has been doing that for quite some time now and the next time I go to India I'll be carrying a small camera with me everywhere.

  3. Oh, i wan't aware of that. I've posted on the blank noise project as well, but didn't see pictures of the offenders on the mother site.
